i knew splendid love
I
i knew splendid love
when you and i embraced
and little cupids whispered
outside of doors
and fluttered on silent wings
in dark passages down halls
and held their tiny hands
over giggling mouths
when they caught us kissing
on the couch
and turned to hide
their wide eyes in opened hands
when they saw us
touching secret places
places know only to us
II
i knew wonderful love
when you and youth
were all i had
when now was all
we lived to love
and loved to live
and the past was only
our last kiss
still wet upon our lips
and the future
so far away
so many years away
was the night
that hid our nakedness
in dreams known only to us
III
i knew magnificent love
when you were my religion
your body my temple of worship
your eyes the windows to heaven
your words my only nourishment
the water of your mouth my drink
and i would bury myself
so deep in you
so completely lost in you
until i knew not myself from you
till we were as one
a thing know only to us
IV
i knew glorious love
when your beauty
was the envy of every goddess
and each one of them
would have gladly given
their immortality
to posses even a small portion
of your beauty
and all the gods
came from on high
to gaze on and worship you
to kiss the ground at your feet
and i not knowing how or why
captured your sweet heart
and won the world's greatest prize
all wrapped up in you
and you and I were the first
to discover true love
a love known only to us
